Wanaka Hike & Fly 2024: the adventure that brings riders together
The Wanaka Hike & Fly 2024 was held from 16 to 18 February in Wanaka, New Zealand.
Kinga Masztalerz, race director, told us about this fourth edition:
Optimum weather conditions enabled the pilots to enjoy some incredible flights in the superb Southern Alps.
With a significant increase in international entries compared to previous years, the competition features a unique race format, offering pilots of all levels the opportunity to choose their favourite turnpoints in the order that suits them. Turnpoints vary in difficulty, with easier ones worth one point and more difficult ones worth two or more. To encourage a spirit of adventure, the event features night turnpoints, offering a bonus of five points for each night spent, as well as a new Bivouac Bonus with a social twist, rewarding bivouacs shared with another competitor.
Johannes Marburger distinguished himself with his strategic flight, securing him first place, followed by the daring manoeuvres of Charles de Beaufort and the calculated approach of Emlyn Revell-Nash.
Special prizes were awarded for the participants' spirit of adventure, perseverance and fair play, highlighting the inclusive and rewarding nature of the competition.
The Wanaka Hike & Fly 2024 has confirmed its status as a key event on the international paragliding scene.
👏 Congratulations to Charles de Beaufort for winning the BlueBip and to Jakub Rott for winning the BipBip PRO V2 !
